Gas Safety Week 2025 - Day 3: The dangers of fake parts in gas appliances

Counterfeit spare parts may be cheaper than genuine parts provided by the appliance manufacturer, but are they worth the risks they carry? Fake parts often haven’t undergone rigorous safety testing and may be made from substandard materials. Using them can compromise the safe operation of your appliance and invalidate its warranty.

Gas appliances are designed with specific components that undergo rigorous testing to meet Gas Appliance Regulations.  Fitting non-genuine parts can lead to premature failure, unsafe emissions or worse.

 Always:

  • Source parts from reputable suppliers
  • Confirm part numbers with the manufacturer
  • Fit only genuine, certified components

HHIC urges engineers and consumers alike to help keep the industry fake-free.
