Gas Safety Week 2025 - Day 1: Why annual servicing of gas appliances matters

When it comes to gas safety, prevention is better than cure. Servicing your gas appliances annually is vital to keeping them running efficiently, reliably, and most importantly, safely. During a service, a Gas Safe registered engineer will carry out a series of checks to ensure your appliance is operating correctly. This includes inspecting components for wear and tear, checking for leaks, testing gas pressure and flue flow and cleaning essential parts.

HHIC believes that making annual servicing mandatory would help to reinforce the importance of regular maintenance and ensure high levels of safety are maintained.  It can also help to prevent a breakdown in the middle of winter.

What to expect from a service:

  • Visual inspection of the appliance and its installation
  • Functional checks of safety devices
  • Flue and ventilation inspection
  • Cleaning of components
  • Operational checks
  • Issue of a service record or report

Don’t wait for something to go wrong.  Book your annual service with a Gas Safe registered engineer.
